Montagne des Singes

In our 2014 trip to France, my wife and I traveled with our friends Jason and Nick to La Montagne des Singes.

This park is “raising public awareness of the protection of Barbary macaques by presenting them in a setting very similar to their natural habitat … Scientists estimate there are less than 8,000 individuals in the wild (down from 23,000 in 1978).” The park has a little over 200 of these creatures roaming freely around humans confined to a thin oval path.

All of us had fun feeding the macaques popcorn at arms length and observing them gobble up fruits and vegetables provided by park staff.
