Yesterday, I placed my seed orders with Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, Seed Savers Exchange, and Territorial Seed Company. Unfortunately, I did not see that Seed Savers sold this bean, the Purple-Poldded Pole Bean. And an email informed me that my order shipped within hours of placing it, so I had no chance to revise my “shopping cart.”
I am a vertical gardener (i.e. saves space for other veggies), so anything that will trellis wins over bush varieties. And so, my order with Baker Creek stuck with what I grew this past season, the Old Homestead (Kentucky Wonder) and Rattlesnake Pole Beans — two fine varieties.
As you can see, the Purple-Podded Pole Bean looks beautiful when preparing it for a meal. It’s also a lot easier to find harvest time.
